The electric SUV is solely offered with rear-wheel-drive and an electric motor located at the rear axle, with the dual motor all-wheel-drive version following later. First sales were for the ID.4 "1st edition", which differs in some interior and exterior features from the series production models. which consists of a water-cooled brushless permanently excited synchronous machine positioned at the rear axle. The motor produces between 109–150 kW (148–204 PS; 146–201 hp) of power and up to 310 N⋅m (230 lb⋅ft) of torque, revolving at speeds of up to 16,000 rpm.[18] The ID.4 recuperates energy when braking as standard, with up to 0.25 g. If the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator pedal, the vehicle is set to coast along in order to preserve energy, with the motor freely rotating. However the vehicle can be set to recuperate instead, again with forces of up to 0.25 g. When stronger deceleration is required, the vehicle uses conventional hydraulic brakes.

Tesla is the clear winner on all fronts. The Tesla looks better—and it's more exciting. The base-model Tesla has a longer range and extended range options and has almost twice the acceleration speed. The interior is more comfortable and stylish. If you're dead-set on driving an electric car, a Tesla of any kind is certainly worth the price. In fact, Tesla probably offers the best value in the entire electric car industry. This is due to its exceptional build quality, frequent software updates, and pre-loaded sensors for self diving tech that will evolve in the future. A Tesla is designed to last around 500,000 miles. And if you drive normally, that will far outlast the impact of the cost and the length of the payments. Most gas cars start having problems around 100,000 miles, which (in many cases) is before you're even done paying it off. Tesla cars have few moving parts and rely on software, which the company updates frequently.
